Rapper OG Maco Reveals He’s Had Skin-Eating Disease That Nearly Cost Him His Entire Face, Did Cost Him His Loved Ones

OG Maco has been relatively quiet from the music scene over the past year, and it seems we now know why.

On Saturday, March 9, the Georgia rapper went on Instagram Stories and told his followers that he has a skin-eating disease called necrotizing fasciitis.

“So much healing has occurred thanks to God and my doctors that I’m willing to show all a fraction of what I’ve been going through,” he wrote over a photo of himself. “I was improperly treated for a minor rash and ended up with a skin eating disease for the last few months. This is the best it’s looked. I hope it gives someone hope.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, when someone has necrotizing fasciitis, bacteria spreads quickly through the body, and it can lead to death. Some of the symptoms include fever, nausea and dizziness, which can occur after an injury or having surgery.

In Maco’s second post about his condition, he stated that his friends have left him, and he’s had very little help.

“I’ve been going through this alone 90% of the time without the support of the person I love,” he wrote. “Girlfriends/lovers will leave you at your worst. Friendship is many times just a word.”

Then in a video, Maco talked about the fear and uncertainty he’s faced.

“I’ve been going through this for about three months,” he explained on Sunday, March 10. “People who I’ve given all of my love to, all of my everything to caused me to not trust anybody or believe in anything. I’ve been scared a lot. I didn’t know what was going to happen. I didn’t know if I was going to lose my entire face. I almost did.”

The 26-year-old broke on to the national scene in 2014 with the cut “U Guessed It, and two years after that he lost his eye in a car crash. He also announced his retirement in 2018.

After Maco shared news about his condition, he received a lot of well-wishes from fans.

“Hope you good bro bro hang in there only God knows the reasons these type of things happen your in my prayers 💪,” someone wrote.

“nothing and nobody can take away what you’ve accomplished!” wrote another. “people gonna turn on you and it’s gonna make it hard to trust but keep faith and keep grinding you’ve changed lives throughout your career keep doing ya thing! All love bro!”

Maco thanked everyone for their kind words on Twitter March 10.

“I love you all and appreciate your support from the bottom of my heart,” he wrote.
