Kelly Rowland said she loves being married, however, it took her a while to get used to the idea.
The Destiny’s Child member jumped the broom with her manager Tim Weatherspoon in 2014 but before that, she was scared of monogamy.
“At the beginning, I was scared of the idea of loving one person,” said Roland in an interview with Vogue Australia. “I was nervous about being with one person for the rest of my life.”
But after dating for a few years and having one very important conversation with Weatherspoon, Rowland said she began to fight her fears of settling down.
Those fears, she said, came from a string of bad relationships, and Rowland was so scared about being with just one person, she suggested to Weatherspoon that they stop dating for a while.
“I’d had the worst relationships, and I was so scared and said, ‘How about we take a break from dating?'”she explained. “And he said, ‘What if we took a break from dating and God sent you a guy and that guy was me?’ And I was like click. I hung up the phone.”
“I was scared, because I knew he was my husband in that moment,” added Rowland. “And I almost ran away from that, but I just embraced it.”
Elsewhere in the interview, the 37-year-old talked about why she loves being married and what she admires most about her spouse. However, she does admit that it’s not always easy between them, but the difficult days are worth it.
“Marriage is awesome,” said Rowland. “It has its ups and downs, like anything in life but it’s incredible. My husband is my rock, my best friend. He believes when I don’t, believes that anything can work and that anything is possible in such a positive light.”
“I think he’s a freak sometimes,” she added. “No-one can see things like that, but he’s a realist and he’s positive and he’s an a–hole, but I love him for everything he does, like in the cutest way of an a–hole.”
Meanwhile, Rowland is crafting her new album and said she has six songs completed for an 11-track project, which will cover topics like friendship, loss and marriage.
The mother-of-one also talked about the Destiny’s Child reunion that took place at Coachella a few months ago and said it couldn’t have been more special, even the rehearsals.
“We rehearsed like crazy,” she explained. “I would go back to LA, and we would be in rehearsals. They were intense. It was so much fun. When we finished I was sad. Thank God Michelle and Bey were still in town, so I could still see them.”
“It spoiled me all the time we were able to spend together,” added Rowland. “But that creative time is pretty remarkable when we are together … And we still love each other …. We were laughing at that one day: We were getting ready, but our kids were running around. That’s the fun part; it’s the sweetest thing. They are going to be friends because we are all so close. Coachella was awesome.”
