Earlier this month, Andrea Kelly, R. Kelly’s ex-wife, spoke out about being married to the singer and the alleged abuse she endured.
Now, in an interview with Inside Edition, the dancer and choreographer has given more details and just like some of Kelly’s recent accusers, Andrea said she couldn’t leave the house without his permission.
She also spoke of one time when Kelly tied her up with rope.
“He’s definitely a monster,” she said in tears. “I often say I spent 10 years being married, but I don’t know what it’s like to be a wife … What was supposed to be my big beautiful mansion ultimately became my prison … I was tied up and left on the side of the bed, and he went to sleep.”
Andrea also said the singer made her call him daddy and if that wasn’t done, she’d be punished in one of several ways, which mirror what other women have claimed.
“Physical, sometimes yelling, screaming, throwing things at you,” said Andrea about the different ways Kelly abused her.
If you recall, Kitty Jones and Asante McGee, two of the women who said they were a part of Kelly’s alleged sex cult, also said they were forced to call him daddy or face repercussion. Plus, the women claimed they couldn’t leave the house freely and were denied meals if they made Kelly angry.
“I had to use the restroom and texted him ‘Daddy, I need to use the restroom,’” McGee explained. “We were required to call him daddy. He told us to call him daddy. You address him as daddy. You would get in trouble if you didn’t.”
In fact, Andrea said she was inspired to tell her story by Jones, McGee and the other women who’ve spoken out against the R&B artist. But it was one day that she received her biggest epiphany, which was the day she gathered her children and left for good.
“It was really like a scene out of a movie,” she explained. “We drove off into the sunset and never looked back.”
Andrea and Kelly were married from 1996 to 2009 and have three children together.
