Question:
What percentage of married Black men who earn over $100,000/year are married to a Black Women?
A. 10%
B. 50%
C. 83%
D. 97%
Answer:
There’s an ongoing myth propagated throughout the Black community that Black men drop Black women as soon as they reach a certain level of success. Although a number of entertainers, athletes and actors do choose to date or marry interracially once they achieve fame, most successful Black men do not, according to researchers Ivory A. Toldson of Howard University and Bryant Marks of Morehouse College. By analyzing census data, Toldson and Marks found that 83 percent of married Black men who earned at least $100,000 annually got hitched to Black women.
This is also the case for educated Black men of all incomes. Eighty-five percent of Black male college graduates married Black women. In general, 88 percent of married Black men (no matter their income or educational background) have Black wives.
