A mother decided to turn her son over to authorities after his photo was shown on the news for robbing a couple at gunpoint.
Suspect Derriontay Perry, 20, was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and aggravated robbery on April 22 after he tried to rob a Memphis, TN homeowner. Perry asked the male resident for a ride and then attempted to rob him by pointing a gun at the victim according to police reports. Security footage shows a female resident coming outside of the home and firing a shot into the air to scare Perry, WREG reported. The 20-year-old then reportedly fired back at the couple.
“I do not even know where he got a gun,” Adrian Perry, the suspect’s mother told Fox 13.
Derriontay’s mother said she immediately dialed 911 when she saw the news report.
“I love him. That’s what you call tough love. Something a lot of more parents need to start doing… I am sorry that your visit to Memphis, Tennessee had to be like that because of MY disobedient, disrespectful child,” Adrian told reporters.
Derriontay is now in jail on a $100,000 bond. No injuries were reported during the shootout.
