A powerful scene between actors Danai Gurira and Daniel Kaluuya not shown in the high grossing film “Black Panther” has gone viral within a matter of minutes on the Internet.
The deleted clip confirms relationship details between the dynamic duo and indicating that Okoye, played by Gurira and W’Kabi, played by Kaluuya are actually married. The scene takes place after Michael B. Jordan’s character Killmonger beats the fallen King of Wakanda T’Challa aka Chadwick Boseman. The couple argue over whether or not T’Challa is fit to be king and double down on possibly having children.
“This is what you would have me leave the Dora for, to bring our children into this world where they become conquerors?” Okoye asked.
“Yes. Our children will be leaders of a truly free world, not just a tiny country where we have to hide everything that makes us great,” W’Kabi replied. “There will be war and death but in the end, it will be beautiful. And Wakanda will stand tall.”
In an exclusive with USA Today, director Ryan Coogler said he “was incredibly proud” of the scene as a director but it didn’t work “inside of the confines of our film.” He conveyed that he wished the clip did work to be able to show the audience the history of the tension between Okoye and W’Kabi.
