The highly anticipated film “A Wrinkle in Time” directed by Ava DuVernay has very big shoes to fill. Not only because DuVernay is the first African American woman to direct a film with a budget of $100 million, but the film comes less than a month after the Disney’s blockbuster hit “Black Panther.” The initial reviews of the adaptation have been mixed.
DuVernay’s “A Wrinkle in Time” is a science fantasy film based on the novel written in 1962. The movie follows a young girl who searches the universe through time and space to find her father that went missing. In her quest, she’s assisted by fairy god-mother type characters played by Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, and Mindy Kaling.
Many prescreening viewers shared their disappointment in the film.

I wish I could be the champion for "A Wrinkle in Time." Sadly, I was underwhelmed. It's certainly got ambition and Storm Reid has a bright future ahead, but it shares a lot of the book's flaws and the pacing is really off. Full review tomorrow.

But despite the abundance of negative reviews of the film, fans still vow to see it.
I'm so glad to read this! I'd seen some negative reviews, and they had given me pause.
