Chadwick Boseman who played the main character T’Challa, was born in South Carolina and studied directing at Howard University. Boseman, 40, recently revealed that actress Phylicia Rashad helped raise money for him to go to the prestigious Oxford University Mid-Summer program in London.
Lupita Nyong’o who played Nakia was born in Mexico City, Mexico. Her Kenyan parents were in Mexico because her father Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o was a visiting lecturer in political science at El Colegio de México the day she was born. Lupita is of Lou decent (an ethnic group from western Kenya) on both sides and traditionally they name their children after the events of that day, so they gave her a Spanish name. Her family returned back to Kenya before Lupita turned 1.
Michael B. Jordan who played Erik Killmonger was born in Santa Ana, California. Jordan’s first major film role was “Fruitvale Station” with director Ryan Coogler. The pair has worked on three films thus far with more to come if they can help it. Jordan’s parents Donna and Michael A. Jordan gave him the middle name Bakari which means noble promise in Swahili.
Daniel Kaluuya who played W’Kabi is from London, England. Although he is from London his parents are from Uganda. He lived with his mother in London and rarely saw his father due to U.K’s strict visa regulations.
