Lonzo Ball’s comical take on his dad’s antics has basketball fans seeing him in a new light, thanks to a Father’s Day Foot Locker ad.
Ball, a top NBA prospect, is featured with several other 2017 NBA Draft prospects, including Florida State forward Johnathan Issac and Kentucky point guard De’Aaron Fox. Each prospect shares fond memories of his dad, like fishing and playing basketball in the driveway. Ball, however, pokes fun at his brash, outspoken father, LaVar Ball.
“Of course, there’s that big day when your dad berates your high school coach in front of an entire crowd for not getting enough touches,” Lonzo Ball deadpans.
The clip cuts to other prospects, who share more positive father-son memories, before returning to Lonzo Ball, who rattles off a list of recollections that could only happen with a father like LaVar Ball.
“When your dad sits you down and tells you where you’re going to college,” he says. “Copyrights your name to make it part of a family lifestyle brand, went on ‘First Take’ and shouted back and forth with Stephen A. Smith about how you’re already better than the reigning league MVP.”
Lonzo Ball’s ability to poke fun at his dad’s outspoken nature won him lots of admiration from Twitter users.
