Chance the Rapper Makes History for Streaming-Only Win
Chance the Rapper made Grammy history Sunday, Feb. 12, when he won three gramophones for his streaming-only mixtape “Coloring Book.” The God-fearing MC took home the prizes for Best Rap Album, Best New Artist — the first Black hip-hop artist to win it since Lauryn Hill in 1999 — and Best Rap Performance.
“I know that people think that independence means you do it by yourself, but independence means freedom,” he said of his non-music label status. “I do it with these folks right here. Glory be to God!”
