On the Sept. 6 Edition of ABC’s “The View,” co-host Whoopi Goldberg shut downs critics of San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick’s national anthem protest.
In the clip, Paula Faris, Candace Cameron Bure and Sarah Haines felt that Kaepernick’s protest was disrespectful to military servicemen.
However, the comedienne and actress points out that Black athletes have always protested for civil rights.
The QB’s protest is not a new phenomenon, she says.
“People have been protesting — be they athletes who won gold medals, who stood on the podium and did this,” Goldberg says. “The b—- about all of this is we’re still protesting the same thing. People find the ways that they can do it.”
She also raised her fist to reference Olympians Tommie Smith and John Carlos’ 1968 protest.
