Newark Police Search for 20-Year-Old Suspect, Chases 10-Year-Old Down Alley With Shot Gun Pointed Instead

Newark, New Jersey police are conducting an internal investigation after officers chased down a 10-year-old boy who they say fit the description of a robbery suspect on Aug. 10.

According to WABC ABC 7 News, fifth-grader Legend Preston was playing basketball when gun-toting Newark police officers chased him down an alley.

“Some police started coming this way with guns pointed at me, and then I ran into the backyard,” Legend says in the news clip. “I ran because they thought that I rolled the ball into the street on purpose, and they were just holding shot guns at me trying to shoot me.”

Immediately after the incident, Legend’s mother recorded his reaction to the frightening event.

Here is an excerpt of her original post recapping the alarming episode:

… Multiple #NEWARKPDOFFICERS CHASED MY 10 YEAR OLD SON WITH OPEN LOADED SHOT GUNS … THE MAN THEY WERE LOOKING FOR WAS OVER 6FT DARK WITH LONG LOCS …

Officers involved said their guns were out but not pointed at Legend, ABC 7 News reports.

Since then, NPD officers have caught the suspect, identified as 20-year-old Casey Joseph Robinson.
