The community of Ferguson, Missouri will celebrate the life of 18-year-old Michael Brown Jr. with multiple planned observances for the second anniversary of his death today, Aug. 9.
In 2014, Brown was gunned down by Ferguson Police officer Darren Wilson. The unarmed teen’s death sparked national protests addressing rampant police brutality and excessive use of force in Black communities.
According to St. Louis’ KTVI FOX 2, The Michael Brown Foundation, Chosen for Change will have a vigil at 10:30 a.m. at the memorial site on Canfield Drive.
There will be an 11:55 a.m. national moment of silence for four-and-a-half minutes. The observances will wrap up with a Night of Reflection at the Wellspring Church on South Florissant Road in Ferguson at 6:30 p.m.
