This 1991 ‘hood drama follows the story of a young boy named Tre (Cuba Gooding Jr.), whose mother (Angela Basset) sends him to live with his father (Laurence Fishburne) in the tough Crenshaw neighborhood in South Central Los Angeles. Although Tre’s father and girlfriend Brandi (Nia Long) try to instill good values in him, the company Tre keeps is involved in the neighborhood’s drug and gang culture, which eventually becomes tragic.

Lloyd Avery II
Avery is best known as the street thug who shot and killed Ricky while he ran for his life down the alley. Avery would play out this role in real life and end up behind bars for double murder. He was eventually murdered in his cell in 2005. Although his career was short-lived, he had a few minor roles in “Poetic Justice” and “Menace to Society.”
