Man Pulls Gun, Beats Mailman in Unprovoked Racial Attack in Connecticut

A man in Waterbury, Connecticut was arrested Sunday after he pulled a gun and called his postman racial slurs when he found the mail carrier urinating near his property.

Home owner Daniel Alvarado, 42, saw the mailman, 23-year-old Roshane Thompson, urinating in a wooded area near his property on Saturday and confronted him, according to police.

After seeing the mail carrier relieve himself by the property, Alvarado became furious and started an altercation with the man. Multiple reports state that Alvarado pulled out a gun and started pointed it at the mail carrier’s stomach. He then handed the gun to his girlfriend and continued to violently attack Thompson.

According to the Waterbury police department, Alvarado slammed Thompson to the ground several times and called him racial slurs. NBC Connecticut reported that Thompson was found lying on the ground next to his mail truck with a large cut above his right eye. He was taken to the hospital to be treated for a broken eye socket.

The assault went on for a few several minutes before Alvarado stopped.

Alvarado was charged with second-degree assault with a firearm, reckless endangerment, carrying a firearm while intoxicated and second-degree bigotry, reported Fox 54. Details about the race of the mailman and the racial slurs used have not been released by police and other authorities.

NBC Connecticut reported that Alvarado was employed by the Department of Correction for nearly 16 years. He is currently on administrative leave from the Bridgeport Correctional Center, according to a Department of Correction spokesperson.

There will be an arraignment at Waterbury Superior Court on March 29.
