Knife Found on O.J. Simpson’s Estate, May Add New Twist to Case 21 Years After His Acquittal, Twitter Responds with Humor

ojsimpson_gloves_1200_article_story_largeAmerican entertainer and athlete O.J Simpson is back in headlines. A knife found on his old estate Friday adds more drama to the 1994 murder case of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman.

According to Salon, “Captain Andy Neiman said the LAPD became aware of the knife within the past month and confirmed TMZ’s initial report that police acquired the knife from a retired LAPD officer. Neiman said that it is unclear whether the former motor officer was retired at the time he came into custody of the knife.”

Reports say the knife was dug up by a construction worker working on the property years prior and until recently the LAPD has obtained the possible weapon.

“It’s still unclear whether the knife, whose existence was revealed Friday, is connected to the case in any way. Still, since Simpson, a former NFL star, was already acquitted of the murders in 1995, double jeopardy would protect him from another trial,” reports The Atlantic.

The controversial murder case has been dramatized in the hit TV series The People v. O.J Simpson: American Crime Story. The high-profile case brought racial issues center stage because it was immediately after the Rodney King police brutality incident in Los Angeles. Black L.A. residents have been at odds with the police due to years of extreme policing, racial profiling and excessive force.

Twitter users found this new bit of evidence as a chance to revisit the case in a comedic manner and parallels between the show.
