Abolition Was Lincoln’s Idea!
In usual Black Twitter fashion, many social media users launched sarcastic responses to the claims and started creating their own “factual” statements about leaders who did not get credit for the things they have done.
“In fact, abolition was Lincoln’s idea!” one user tweeted. The tweet earned over 100 retweets in a few hours.
The Ferguson Protests Were Jay Nixon’s Idea!
Another sarcastic tweet suggested that if the historian wanted to give the former president credit for Selma, we should all give Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon credit for all the protests that took over the streets of Ferguson after unarmed teen Michael Brown was fatally shot by police officer Darren Wilson.
“In fact, the Ferguson protests were Jay Nixon’s idea,” one user wrote in a reply to the user who suggested abolition was Lincoln’s idea.
