5 Black Young People Who Were Killed by Police After Michael Brown

Tamir Rice The 12-year-old was shot by a police officer in Cleveland on Nov. 22 after the officer mistook his toy airsoft gun for a pistol. When officers arrived at the scene, responding to a call about a "guy with a pistol that was probably fake," police say that Tamir reached for his toy and ignored three commands to "drop the his weapon", which caused officer Timothy Loehmann to fire two shots at the young boy. He died the next day. A recently released video of the incident appears to contradict the officers' story. Cameron Tillman On Sept. 21, Louisiana police were responding to reports of trespassers with weapons going into an abandoned home. Cameron, 14, was shot by a police officer who has yet to be named. His brother, who witnessed the shooting, said Cameron was shot opening the door and was unarmed, but the police claim that a gun was found near his body. The weapon later turned out to be a BB gun. VonDerrit Myers Jr. The 18-year-old was shot six or seven times in the Shaw neighborhood of St. Louis on Oct. 8 after police officer Jason Flanery fired at him 17 times. Police claim that the teen charged at the officer, but his family insists that the youth was unarmed and was only holding a sandwich. Roshad McIntosh On Aug. 24, the 19-year-old was part of a group being questioned by police in Chicago when he tried to run away. Police claim that the teen brandished a gun and aimed it at police, but McIntosh’s family has a different version of events. His mother, Cynthia Lane, says that witnesses told her that her “son was in a surrender posture with his hands up begging for his life," when he was shot three times in the chest. Qusean Whitten After allegedly robbing a Dollar General in Columbus, Ohio, the 18-year-old was killed when police opened fire after he jumped out of the car he reportedly was using to flee the scene on Oct. 10.
