Bar Sign – ‘Mike Brown Special: Six Shots of Something’

On Aug. 22, a very disturbing photo of a bar advertisement began floating around social media. It appeared that a St. Louis-area bar put out a chalkboard sign on the sidewalk advertising a drink special that referenced the Aug. 9 shooting death of 18-year-old Michael Brown. The ad read “Mike Brown Special: six shots of something.”

According to the social news website Buzzfeed, the original image was uploaded to Facebook by Erin Bergeon, who told the media outlet that she took the picture at 8:21 p.m. Aug. 21 at the back entrance of a bar on St. Charles’ Main Street.

A Buzzfeed investigation identified the bar as The Lounge on Main. When the site reached out to owner Justin Donahue, it was revealed that the sign had been on display for 40 minutes outside his bar, but it was the work of a customer who was kicked out of the bar and banned for life.

“I got hacked,” said Donahue. “The sign sits outside my business, someone hacked it, and now people are coming to burn my place down.”
