Close-Knit Country
Two-thirds of Benin’s population lives in the southern part of the country, clustered around the city of Cotonou, the focus of political and commercial life, and Porto-Novo, the official capital.
Three Names of Capital City
Porto-Novo, the capital city of Benin, is known as the “City with three names.” Porto-Novo is also referred to as Adjatche, in the Yoruba language, and Hogbonou in the Goun language. The three names represents how multi-cultural the capital of Porto-Novo truly is.
