Malawi: Unity and Freedom
The Republic of Malawi is a southeastern landlocked African nation. The name Malawi comes from the Maravi, an old name of the Nyanja people who inhabit the area. The country is also nicknamed “The Warm Heart of Africa.”
The Malawian flag’s colors have meaning. Black represents the native people. Red stands for the blood that was shed in their struggle for freedom, and green represents nature. The red sun represents the rising sun that symbolizes the hope of freedom for the continent of Africa.
