Armstrong had an airport named after him in 2001 in his hometown of New Orleans. He is the only musician to have an airport named after him in the United States.
He was a philanthropist. The Louis Armstrong Educational Foundation was founded and funded by Armstrong in 1969 to give back to the world “some of the goodness he received.”
