Louisville’s Kevin Ware Returns to Game After Horrific Leg Injury

Louisville’s Kevin Ware played in his first game Wednesday since he sustained a horrific broken leg injury during the NCAA tournament last season.

When Ware took the court in an exhibition game against Pikeville, the crowd gave him a standing ovation. He played for 10 minutes,  made his first shot, a 3-pointer, and finished with six points and four rebounds.

“It was great. I’ve never felt like that before,” he told ESPN.com after the game. “I’ve been waiting for that moment. Once I hit the first shot, it took away all of the jitters.”

The Louisville player, who entered the contest in the second half, said he is mentally prepared but he has to get into physical shape.

“Not seeing the injury took all the doubt away,” said Ware, who told ESPN that he never watched the video of himself suffering the broken leg. “Now I just need to get in shape.”

“I can build on this,” he said. “I’m just hoping to get out there and show people that I can be the same player I was before the injury.”
