Wednesday, former No. 1 pick and new Miami Heat signee Greg Oden played in his first game in four years.
The center threw down a monster dunk in a preseason game against the New Orleans Pelicans. When Oden checked into the game, his teammates cheered him on as he dunked on the first play.
Oden has had four major knee surgeries since 2007, when he was drafted No 1. by the Portland Trail Blazers. He has been sidelined since 2009 because of those injuries.
Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said last month that the organization will take its time getting Oden acclimated back into the NBA.
“It’s step by step, practice by practice, minute by minute,” Spoelstra said. “It was a big bonus to have him out there. We’ll meet with the trainers and see how he reacts and go from there.”
