Los Angeles Dodgers Say No to Robinson Cano

Robinson Cano

The Los Angeles Dodgers will pass on free-agent second baseman Robinson Cano, who is the biggest name player on the market this offseason, according to Dodgers owner Magic Johnson.

“I can’t talk about the other guy,” Johnson told USAtoday Sports referring to Cano on Thursday. “But you already know that guy in New York is going to be paid. Not by us. But he’s going to get paid.”

According to the report, Johnson said that the Dodgers are focused on re-signing lefty pitcher Clayton Kershaw. Kershaw had a big night against the Atlanta Braves in Game 1 of the National League Division Series on Thursday night. In the Dodgers 6-1 win, he struck out 12 players over seven innings. Kershaw also had a 1.83 ERA during the regular season so his stock is rising by the minute.

“We’re not worried about that. We already know we’ve got to give him a lot of money. What’s a few more zeroes. I mean, really?” Johnson told the newspaper, laughing.

Cano has averaged 28 home runs and 102 RBIs over the past five seasons. He is also a career .309 hitter. He is expected to get one of the biggest contract ever MLB history.
