Aaron Hernandez‘s fiancée has been charged with perjury in connection with the murder of Odin Lloyd, a Massachusetts prosecutor said Friday. This brings the total number of people charged in this case to five. The former New England Patriots player, Hernandez, received the most serious charges for being the alleged trigger man.
According to ESPN:
“A grand jury indicted Shayanna Jenkins, 24, on a single count in relation to the investigation into the June 17 killing of Odin Lloyd, Bristol County District Attorney Samuel Sutter said.”
Lloyd was also a football player, who was apparently dating Jenkins’ sister. Yahoo Sports reported:
“Lloyd, a 27-year-old semiprofessional football player from Boston, was found shot to death in an industrial park in North Attleborough, Mass., near Hernandez’s home, where Jenkins also lives. Lloyd had been dating Jenkins’ sister.”
The details of Jenkin’s arrest haven’t been released, but authorities say she provided false statements while being questioned about the case.
According to USA Today:
“A statement, released by the Bristol County (Mass.) district attorney’s office, did not provide any information about the basis for the criminal charges against Jenkins. Prosecutors say Jenkins — who has a child with Hernandez — started lying from the get-go, telling them she went to bed early on the night of the shooting and didn’t know where Hernandez went or with whom. But, investigators say, she is shown on the surveillance video, welcoming Ernest Wallace, whom prosecutors have called Hernandez’s ‘right-hand man,’ and Carlos Ortiz to the house when they came to pick up Hernandez and take Lloyd for his last ride.”
Hernandez has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and weapons charges in Lloyd’s murder. He is being held in jail without bail.
