Quarterback Geno Smith and running back Bilal Powell, who had a career high 149 rushing yards, led the New York Jets to a 27-20 win over the Buffalo Bills Sunday.
Smith faced fellow African-American rookie Bills’ quarterback E.J. Manuel, who was selected in the NFL draft before the Jets’ QB.
Smith struggled in Week 2, but had a great turn around this game. He went 16-of-29 for 331 yards for two passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown along with two interceptions in the game.
In this contest, the Jets’ rookie looked far more comfortable of the two, which led to three long touchdown drives. He was helped by Powell, who took the running back responsibilities when starter Chris Ivory injured his hamstring in the first quarter.
Smith made a few mistakes that led to interceptions, but he subsequently put together a six-play, 80-yard drive.
