Michelle Obama
First lady Michelle Obama is closest in proximity to the leader of the free world, her husband U.S. President Barack Obama. Notwithstanding the experience she gains from being at the White House, Michelle Obama brings her own credentials to the table. She is one of only four first ladies to hold a graduate degree. She earned her graduate degree in law at Harvard Law School and she holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Princeton University.
In 2010 as first lady, Obama launched Let’s Move!, a campaign aimed at bringing together community leaders, teachers, doctors, nurses, and parents in a nationwide effort to tackle childhood obesity.
Obama also hosted a White House dinner to support mentoring programs for young girls, encouraging them to break the glass ceiling while giving them access to accomplished women.
Luísa Diogo
Luísa Diogo is the former prime minister of Mozambique from February 2004 to January 2010. She was the first female prime minister of the nation.
Lately Diogo has focused on gender equality and women’s empowerment through a recently launched “Network of Women Ministers and Parliamentarians” (MUNIPA).
MUNIPA aims to strengthen advocacy and lobbying activities so that policies and legislation are adopted favorable to gender equity and women’s empowerment. Promoting equality between men and women is a central concern of the Mozambican government, which has adopted instruments to promote women’s empowerment at all levels of government.
