‘Pacific Rim’s’ Idris Elba Says Nothing Prepared Him for Robots, Monsters

Before director Guillermo del Toro ever said “action,” he made sure to show the actors plenty of sketches to demonstrate what the robots and monsters would look like when “Pacific Rim” was completed.

However, from the actors’ perspective, no amount of explaining could have prepared them for what was in store.

“Nothing really prepared us for the actual end product,” said Elba. “When you see the film, you’re like, ‘Wow, these bastards are big!’ ”

“Pacific Rim” features actors Charlie Hunnam, Ron Perlman, Charlie Day and Rinko Kikuchi, and is set in a time when the human race is threatened by giant monsters rising from the sea. They build massive Jaegers robots, which require two pilots connected mentally through a neural bridge, to battle the creatures.
