Today, Deadline broke several tidbits about how certain directors are being courted for upcoming blockbusters. First, there’s Colin Trevorrow, whose debut Safety Not Guaranteed broke him into the big times last year. He’s writing Disney’s Flight of the Navigator remake, and now he’s set to direct Jurassic Park IV, which is apparently for-real happening now.
Meanwhile, Steven Spielberg is no longer a possibility for Gods and Kings, Warner Bros.’s Biblical epic about Moses, and now the studio is eyeing Ang Lee, fresh off his Oscar win for the religiously-themed Life of Pi, to take the reins.
Then there’s David Fincher, who is apparently hustling up production on Gone Girl, the adaptation of last year’s bestselling crime novel. He’s been working on the project with Fox since January. And Tom Hooper might be the helmer for Sony’s Freddie Mercury biopic, which will be written by Peter Morgan and star Sasha Baron Cohen as the famously flamboyant singer.
All of this is intriguing stuff, though we’ll see how much of it comes to pass.
