The Bon Qui Qui actress, Anjelah N. Johnson, has joined the cast of NBC’s remake of About a Boy.
The pilot adaption to Nick Hornby’s novel and 2002 film of the same name, which starred Hugh Grant, Nicholas Hoult, and Toni Collette will be written and produced by Parenthood’s and Friday Night Lights Jason Katims.
This single camera comedy will tell the story between a bachelor man named Will (New Girl’s David Walton) and Marcus, a young boy who moves in next-door, and his crazy single mother Fiona.
Johnson will play Laurie, a well-meaning but overbearing mother of three who is also the wife of Will’s best friend, Andy. Like Andy, she’s annoyed by Will’s childish ways and gets upset when he reacts to the fact of being their newest child’s godparent.
About a Boy will be directed by Jon Favreau ( Iron Man Series) with Katims as producer. The series was ordered for a pilot series last month with addition to several new shows that NBC is slated to produce.
The MadTv actress is best known for portraying the fast food cashier Bon Qui Qui. The MadTV sketch has achieved more than 60 million views on YouTube.
