Michael Mann fans have waited nearly four years for another feature film from the famed director, and hope has arrived in the rather handsome form of Chris Hemsworth.
Chris Hemsworth has most recently been rumored to star in Steven Spielberg’s science-fiction film Robopocalypse, but the legendary director has since put the project on hold, freeing Hemsworth’s schedule for a few months. Luckily, according to Variety, Michael Mann has boarded an untitled thriller project with Hemsworth attached to star.
Michael Mann has been absent from the director’s chair for the past few years. His last effort, 2009’s Public Enemies, proved to be par for Mann: an awesome story complemented by an amazing soundtrack, great performances and even better cinematography. Details involving plot and even a title are nonexistent for his upcoming film, but the story’s environment is one of cyber threats and cyber attacks. Vague enough for ya?
Chris Hemsworth, of course, smashed onto the scene in 2011’s Thor. He has since gone on to star in The Avengers, Snow White and the Hunstman and even last year’s remake Red Dawn. Hemsworth will feature next in this year’s heavily anticipated Thor: The Dark World and Rush, which is directed by Ron Howard. The actor has proved — without fail — that he has the gusto and presence for more serious work.
Hopefully, Michael Mann will be the man to give Hemsworth the opportunity. The film was written by Morgan Davis Foehl of Mass Effect fame, a video game with an extremely complex yet strong story line and plot. When taking that into consideration the trio of Michael Mann, Foehl and Hemsworth could be quite formidable when production starts this June. Be sure to check back for updates.
