'Office' Darling, Ellie Kemper, Gets Her Own NBC Sitcom

Ellie Kemper is following in her Office co-star, Mindy Kaling’s, footsteps and starring in her own TV series.

Kemper just signed on for Brenda Forever as…you guessed it…Brenda! The new series follows Brenda, a chubby and awkward 13-year old ,who grows up to be a confident and quirky 31-year old (That’s where Kemper comes in.) According to Entertainment WeeklyBrenda Forever is written by David Lampson and Andrew Leeds and will air on NBC. Leeds will also executive-produce with Rescue Me‘s Peter Tolan and Michael Wimer.

The actress is known for her endearing role as the perky Dunder-Mifflin secretary on The Office, which wraps its 9 year run this May. She had notable supporting roles in the box office hits, Bridesmaids and 21 Jump Street. Kemper also guest starred on an episode of her former co-stars’ new show, The Mindy Project. Kemper usually plays a zany, but cute side character, this will be her first leading role. She’s certainly adorable enough to carry a show as the star, Brenda Forever is her chance to truly shine.
