CBS’s hit show How I Met Your Mother will call its ninth season its last.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with the plot, the show follows Ted Mosby (Joshua Radnor) as he tells a very long winded story to his kids about how he met their mother. Ted stumbles through a lot bad dates and failed relationships on his quest to find “the one.” During his relationship roller coaster Ted is supported by his best friends – the married couple, Lily Aldrin (Alyson Hannigan), and Marshall Ericksen (Jason Segel), news anchor and Ted’s former flame, Robin Scherbatsky (Cobie Smulders), and the legendary womanizer, Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris). The older Ted Mosby who narrates each episodes is voiced by Bob Saget.
Creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas have done an excellent job of keeping the mother’s identity under wraps for the past eight years (most likely because they haven’t cast her yet…) As seen on Vulture where the news first broke, there is speculation whether the two will introduce the mother early in the final season or towards the end. After nine long years of build up it would be pretty disappointing to just spend one measly episode finally meeting this woman.
Many fans, myself included, are ready to finally meet the mother. Eight years of awkward dates, Barney Stinson jokes, and mopey Ted Mosby are getting a tad stale. While I’m ready to finally meet the mother and see if she’s worth all this hype, I’m not ready to see the gang go. The ninth and final season will be a bittersweet one.
How I Met Your Mother has been legend – wait for it – dary, legendary, the past eight years and it will surely go out with a bang…bang, bangity bang, I said a bang, bang, bangity bang.
