A recent report from Collider has claimed both Bradley Cooper and Omar Sy are in talks to star in Chef, a new comedy from director Derek Cianfrance.
Chef will revolve around a disgraced culinary master who, after losing his critically acclaimed restaurant in Paris, decides to bring his crew back together in an attempt to create the best restaurant in London. Bradley Cooper is reported to play the leading role whereas Omar Sy’s role has yet to be disclosed.
Bradley Cooper is no stranger to cooking, having already played a chef making a career comeback in the late Fox sitcom Kitchen Confidential. The marketable actor has also earned himself a Best Actor nomination for his work in The Silver Linings Playbook. This only seems logical when you look at Cooper’s progression from Wedding Crashers to The Hangover, The Hangover Part II, Limitless and The Place Beyond the Pines. It only makes sense that he longs to keep the momentum.
In a recent interview in Gaul, Cooper mentioned the project and the possibility of costarring with Omar Sy, who has managed to stay under the radar in spite of his brilliant performance in The Intouchables.
“We’ve been talking about this project. I want to do it. It’s a beautiful story. And I love cooking,” Cooper said.
Director Derek Cianfrance is set to helm the project, the man responsible for the highly polarizing Blue Valentine and the heavily anticipated The Place Beyond the Pines, which also stars Bradley Cooper. He’s also currently working on Cagefighter, a documentary, and Metalhead, a film about a metal drummer who blows his eardrums out. In other words, he’s working with the same amount of momentum as Cooper, so it only makes sense that the two would continually pair up.
All in all, it’ll be nice to see what Cianfrance, Cooper, Sy, and whoever else deciding to hop on board the project manage to come up with. Cooper and Sy’s combined charm and Cianfrance’s obvious knack for directing could eventually prove Chef to be a nearly perfect culinary concoction.
