Will Lance Armstrong finally come clean about the illegal doping allegations? The world famous cyclist, cancer survivor, and alleged steroid user, Lance Armstrong, will appear on Oprah’s OWN The Next Chapter on January 17th. Per Deadline.com, this will be his first interview since the U.S. Anti-Doping agency first charged him with illegal performance enhancing drugs in 2011.
Oprah Winfrey is famous for being one of the most giving and compassionate philanthropists in the world, but equally as notorious for ripping apart anyone who dares dupe the general public. Back in 2006, Oprah berated James Frey, author of A Million Little Pieces, after he admitted his memoir was heavily embellished. Oprah even publicly reamed Frey’s publisher for allowing the book to be classified as a memoir. Armstrong should be nervous about the force he’s about to reckon with when he sits down with Oprah.
It’s incredibly sad to see a man who was once an inspiring role model fall so far from grace. Before the doping allegations, Armstrong’s life was already the perfect plot for a heart-wrenching Lifetime original movie. Early in his career Armstrong gained fame after winning two Tour de France titles. Armstrong garnered major media attention when he was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 1996. Armstrong went on to recover and win five more Tour de France titles and become one of the most admired and inspirational professional athletes of all time.
Additionally, Armstrong went through a painful divorce in 2003 to his first wife, plus a failed engagement to singer Sheryl Crow in 2006. In 2011, he officially retired from racing after allegations from the U.S. Anti-Doping agency surfaced. Armstrong has since been stripped of all his titles and banned from competition. He’s also lost his corporate sponsorships and resigned from his own charity. The saga still makes for a riveting Lifetime special, but this one with a more tragic ending.
