It was only a matter of time until the award winning Homeland creators brought the world another hit. FX has picked up a new series entitled Tyrant from the mind of Homeland’s Gideon Raff. Howard Gordon will executive produce alongside Raff. The duo is bringing in Craig Wright as showrunner, his creds include Lost and an Emmy nomination for Six Feet Under. The Hollywood Reporter tells us Tyrant follows an American family thrust into a turbulent Middle Eastern nation. The new show is being referred to as a “reverse Homeland.”
“The brilliant and wholly original concept just blew us all away,” said Nick Grad, FX’s exec VP of original programming. “It’s pretty amazing when you read a script and can instantly imagine it becoming one of the best shows on television. We’re grateful to the producers for choosing to bring it to FX.”
FX was quick to jump on Tyrant after they passed on Homeland two years ago. Smart movie considering Homeland swept the awards circuit last year and will probably do the same next year.
