Gerard Butler's 'Playing For Keeps' Misses The Goal

Millenium’s Playing For Keeps had a horrible opening weekend. The dramedy opened on 2,837 theaters, but hardly anyone was interested in seeing the ‘300’ star driving around a soccer van. Playing for Keeps was this weekend’s only new wide release, but it flopped, making only $6 million at the box office.

According to the synopsis, this film is:

A romantic comedy about a charming, down-on-his luck former soccer star (Butler) who returns home to put his life back together. Looking for a way to rebuild his relationship with his son, he gets roped into coaching the boy’s soccer team. But his attempts to finally become an “adult” are met with hilarious challenges from the attractive soccer moms who pursue him at every turn.

Playing for Keeps, which stars Gerard Butler, Jessica Biel, Uma Thurman, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Judy Greer and Dennis Quaid, came in number six on the box office charts, being left behind by films which came out weeks earlier. Maybe it should have just been a M.O.W. on Lifetime, because making only $6 million on nearly 3000 screen is ridiculous.
