Christoph Waltz has had quite the successful career since his inclusion in 2009’s Inglourious Basterds. It’s hard to imagine that the same actor who agitated audiences as a Nazi would go on to star alongside Kermit and Miss Piggy in the upcoming sequel to The Muppets. According to a recent article from Total Film, that’s exactly what’s going to happen.
Christoph Waltz has signed on to play an Interpol agent who gets involved with the Muppets’ adventures in Europe. Kermit and Co. are set to embark on a caper that will take them around the continent. Other characters may include a Russian femme fatale and a male lead whose intentions never stop being questionable. Unfortunately, the cast will not include Jason Segel or Amy Adams in a starring role (sad, yes) but the starring couple may pop up in a cameo appearance.
Director of the original, Justin Bobin, is already penning a script with comedy co-writer Nicholas Stoller, which will see Christoph Waltz doing what he seemingly does best: terrorizing anyone and everyone, including his puppet co-stars. The versatile actor has already proved he is more than capable in playing an antagonist with his fairly recent work in The Green Hornet, Water for Elephants and The Three Musketeers (remember that remake? No one else does, either), following Basterds. Frankly, it may be a struggle seeing him as a protagonist in this year’s Django Unchained.
In any case, Christoph Waltz is a brilliant piece of casting. The talented actor has rightly shown that his work can speak for itself. Hopefully, when in the company of Kermit, Gonzo and Fozzy Bear, that talent will not in the least bit diminish. Be sure to check back for more update, we’re sure more casting choices will surface soon!
