Andy Reid Still Committed to Michael Vick Despite Turnovers

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid said he remains committed to starting quarterback Michael Vick, even after another disappointing loss built on turnovers and poor execution.

For the second straight week the Eagles have blown the lead in the fourth quarter, Sunday in overtime to the Detroit Lions after holding a 1o-point lead in the last half of the final period.  Vick has turned the ball over 13 times this season, including two interceptions against Detroit. He has all but four of the Eagles’ league-leading 17 turnovers this season.

Asked if he was still committed to starting Vick against the undefeated Atlanta Falcons in two weeks, Reid told phillymag.com: “Today, I am.”

Reid went on to add that he will break down all aspects of his team.

“I am going to take a hard look at everything,” he said.

There appears that there may be a slight opportunity for a quarterback change in the near future in Philly. Rookie quarterback Nick Foles would be the replacement for Vick if Reid decides to make a change.

Vick is not the only problem with the Eagles.  The offensive line has proven to be inconsistent this season.  The Lions were able to get 11 quarterback hits and three sacks.

Over the last six games Vick has lost a total of five fumbles, which is unacceptable for Reid.

“Turnovers continue to kill us,” Reid said. “We lead the league with 17 turnovers. It’s ridiculous.”

Reid was asked if he was confident that the turnover problem could be solved while Vick was under center.

“Again, I’m going to look at all that stuff,” Reid said. “I know we can get better at it.  I know that.  And we are going to get better at it.”

The Eagles defense will have to get come together as well.  Eagles defensive coordinator Juan Castillo reportedly changed the team’s scheme late in the game according to cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, but Reid denies those claims.
