Jennifer Hudson opened the show in a sparkly blazer and big hair reminiscent of Houston’s look in the 80s. Hudson performed a lively medley of “I’m Every Woman,” “How Will I Know,” and “I Wanna Dance With Somebody.”
The show features numerous clips of Houston at various stages in her career. Houston herself performs her best known song, “I Will Always Love You,” in a clip from the Grammy Awards. The clip brought the audience members to their feet, just as it did when she sang it live in 1994.
Bobbi Kristina Brown who wore diamond rings from her mother’s collection and beau Nick Gordon were seated next to Whitney’s brother Gary Houston. Pat Houston was also in attendance but reportedly Whitney’s mom Cissy was a no-show. attended the show.
