Entertainment Weekly reports that the star and director of this past summer’s The Amazing Spider-Man will be on board for the sequel. The next installment in the rebooted Spider-Man series already has a release date: May 2, 2014. Some people (AKA sane people (AKA people who do not run movie stuidos)) might suggest that setting a date for your movie before you even get all the crew together might be putting out the cart before the horse has even been born. But Sony wants that spider-money train chugging along, and now director Marc Webb and webslinger actor Andrew Garfield are confirmed to have hopped on that train, hobo-style.
Columbia president Doug Belgrad says that, “We could not be more confident in the direction we are taking this new Spider-Man storyline and we are tremendously excited to be ramping up production again with Marc at the helm and Andrew continuing on as Peter Parker.” Time will tell whether, when he says “new,” he means “a story that hasn’t been done before,” or “the plot of a previous film with this character, recycled with a few changes.”
