During a Monday night concert in Washington, pop legend Madonna went on a mini-rant endorsing President Obama for another term…although misstating some facts. Amped about the coming election or packed crowd at her MDNA Tour, Madonna launched into an unrehearsed rant ultimately encouraging fans to vote for the President this November.
“Y’all better vote for f**king Obama, OK? For better or for worse, all right? We have a black Muslim in the White House. Now that’s some amazing sh*t,” she said. “It means there is hope in this country. And Obama is fighting for gay rights, so support the man, godd**nit.”
Well, yes there is a Black man in the White House Madge, but he’s not a Muslim. That’s borderline GOP propaganda. No stranger to campaigning for the POTUS, the 54-year old icon sported a temporary “OBAMA” tattoo across her back last month during a concert at Yankee stadium. Madonna also was a celebrity voice that worked to get the POTUS in office during the 2004 election. Before her…interesting promotion of the President, Madonna gave a small lecture about Abraham Lincoln, civil rights and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy. She later followed the profanity-filled set with a pseudo-striptease ending with, “When Obama is in the White House for a second term I’ll take it all off,”
Hey. Whatever gets the kids to the voting booth, right?
While everyone should be outspoken in demanding that Americans vote (and for President Obama) we must be mindful of the facts. Promote policy and action as opposed to presumed religions or affiliations. The President is an American Christian, and has never shied away from either accurate labels.
