Houston died of an apparent accidental overdose on February 11, the night before the Grammys, where she was scheduled to perform. The coroner ruled the death an “accidental drowning” after Houston was found submerged in her hotel bathtub, unresponsive. Toxicology reports listed a number of drugs in her system, including Xanax, Benadryl and marijuana. The R&B star was in the midst of a career comeback, having recently filmed a remake of the 1976 film Sparkle. The film, also staring Jordin Sparks and Mike Epps, will be released in theaters on August 17, and has been dedicated to Whitney’s memory.
