12 Shot in Four Hours In Chicago As Violence Continues

The Fourth of July holiday always brings a spike in homicides, and last night the city of Chicago got a head start.

Last night 12 people were shot in a 4-hour span. According to CBS 2 in Chicago, three people remain hospitalized in critical condition. At least five separate shootings were reported between 5 p.m. and just before 9 p.m.

The increase in violence across the Chicago land area has been linked to gang warfare, which skyrocketed as former inhabitants of the city’s famous housing projects were spread around the city. Just this past weekend, a wave of violence left 9 people dead and 17 others wounded. The youngest victim was a 3-year-old boy who was shot in the arm while walking with his parents in the West Pullman neighborhood around 11:30 p.m. Saturday. The boy is listed in stable condition.
