Eric Holder Contempt Vote Goes Before House Thursday

There appears to be no options for Attorney General Eric Holder.

House Speaker John Boehner confirmed that a vote will be held Thursday to recommend that Holder be cited for contempt over his refusal to release documents related to the “Fast and Furious” weapons operation.

No sitting Attorney General has ever been recommended for contempt by either chamber of Congress.

The Ohio Republican’s statement came Wednesday amid a continued impasse between Hill Republicans and the White House, which last week had invoked executive privilege in withholding the documents.

CBS reported that Hill leaders rejected a final document offer from the Obama Administration.

Republicans, with an eye toward the November elections, want to make hay over the “gunwalking” scandal on the same day the Supreme Court issues an historic ruling on Obama’s signature health care law.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) called the vote’s timing “sheer, basic, low-level politics at its best.”
