Boy, 14, Killed in Chicago as Carnage Continues

The inexplicable gun carnage in Chicago continues, as a 14-year-old boy was murdered last night by a man in his 20s.

The man exited a gray van wearing a dark-colored hoodie and opened fire, hitting the boy, Antonio Davis, who had been walking with at least one other person. When Davis hit the ground, the shooter kept firing away.

“He shot him while the victim was down several times,’’ police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez said. The shooter then got back into the van, which was driven by another man about the same age – between the ages of 20 and 25.

In addition to that outrageous shooting, there were other shootings all across Chicago last night—about 13 other people suffered gunshot wounds, a few of them possibly life threatening. One of the shootings took place near the Lincoln Park Zoo and is considered gang-related.

While homicide rates in other cities have been steadily dropping, Chicago’s murder rate has been soaring, leading residents to look to Mayor Rahm Emanuel to take action. Much of the increase has been blamed in gangs. From Jan. 1 through late May of this year, there were 203 homicides in Chicago—69 more murders than in the same span last year.
