Philip Seymour Hoffman Offered Plutarch Heavensbee in 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire'

Lately it’s been pretty quiet in terms of casting for The Hunger Games’s sequel Catching Fire. Today, news broke that Philip Seymour Hoffman was offered the role of Plutarch Heavensbee.

Heavensbee is the savvy Head Gamemaker, who invented viciously brutal weapons to fill the arena. He’s  a mystery man whose primary mission is his own self-preservation, but there’s more than meets the eye with this man.

If the Academy Award winning actor joins the film, it would be a major boost for the franchise, which lacked some Academy prestige in the previous film. Lionsgate has chosen Francis Lawrence to direct The Hunger Games : Catching Fire and  has commited to a November 22, 2013 release date.

Hoffman who recently left his long-time agency Paradigm after 18 years with them, apparently will be making this deal himself.

He recently ended his run on Broadway as Willy in Death Of A Salesman and will appear next in Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master.
