Report: Marvel To Bring Black Superhero ‘Black Panther’ To Big Screen

Marvel Comics, looking to continue its success in turning comic book characters into big screen blockbusters, plans to release a film starring Black Panther, the first black superhero in mainstream comics.

According to TheGrio.com, movie website Latino Review reported that one of the two new Marvel movies yet to be announced will be focused around the Black Panther, who is the king of the resource-rich fictional African nation of Wakanda.

In true Marvel fashion, hints of a film starring the black super hero have been hidden within its last few releases.

Wakanda, the fictional kingdom of Black Panther, was shown on a map in Iron Man 2, and in Captain America: The First Avenger fans are told that Captain America’s shield is made of Vibranium, a rare fictional material only found in Wakanda.

A movie version of Black Panther has been in the works for years, and at one point Wesley Snipes was signed on to star. The film would arguably be the biggest film marketed to a black audience to date, an audience that Marvel has reportedly been pursuing aggressively.
