Jerry O’Connell has been cast to play Herman Munster in NBC’s Munsters reboot Mockingbird Lane.
The former Defenders star will play the father in the remake of the 1960’s CBS comedy. The actor’s character is married to Lily, a vampire, and mother of his 10-year-old son, Eddie. A family man and a hard worker, Herman works at a funeral home, and worries constantly about Eddie’s transformation into a werewolf.
Mockingbird Lane is described by the studio as a “reinvention of the 1960s sitcom about The Munsters, a family of monsters — vampires, werewolves and Frankenstein, and their “plain” cousin — that will feature striking visuals in the vein of Fuller’s ABC dramedy Pushing Daisies.”
Mason Cook will play Herman and Lily’s son, Eddie. Charity Wakefield will play Lily and Eddie Izzard is slated to play Grandpa in the reboot. Bryan Singer will executive produce and direct the pilot.
Fred Gwynne played the role in the original Munsters sitcom, which was produced by Universal Studios. The show aired for 70 episodes from 1964-66.
